Overview

A web designer creates the look, layout and features of a website. The job involves understanding both graphic design and computer programming. Once a website is created, a designer helps with maintenance and additions to the website. They work with development teams or managers for keeping the site up-to-date and prioritizing needs, among other tasks. Under general supervision, designs and modifies web designs and interfaces. Performs mid-level analysis and design of programs. Prepares user and application documentation for the use of new and revised websites, including operational documentation.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must possess at least Bachelor’s degree in Arts/Design/Creative multimedia/Advertising/or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Develops prototype designs, theme motifs, mock-ups, site maps, and storyboards as required to provide users with an understanding of potential design options and to implement phases of development process.
  • Creates template pages and interface screens.
  • Develops user interface requirements through interviews with the users.
  • Interacts with other web development team members with the creation of interfaces for dynamic or active web content. Communicates website design strategies, guidelines and workflows.
  • Develops web designs with usability strategies, guidelines and standards. Actively promotes usability standards within the college, including supporting and contributing to guidelines documentation and usability implementation methodology.
  • Tests and debugs the web sites and applications with regards to usability.
  • Other duties as assigned.
